A variety of Loloish and Burmish data from Southeast Asia, much of it original, is here presented. The comparative method gives a reconstructed schema for Proto-Loloish, as a first steop towards a Tibeto-Burman and Sino-Tibetan schema, and results are compared with existing reconstructions. The implications of phonological and lexical correspondence patterns for genetic sub-groupings are considered, and previous classifications revised.

The reconstructed vocabulary is listed, with direct reference to cognates in languages included.Dr. David Bradley is an American linguist, educated at Columbia (AB) and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London (PhD). He has extensive fieldwork experience in Thailand, Laos, and Burma. He has been teaching linguistics at the Australian National University since 1975.
